  • As the clock strikes midnight (Brussels time) on Sunday March 30th 2019 we will Brexit.

This will be the last club run before Brexit.

It might be international so make sure you have a valid passport (but you shouldn't yet need a visa).

  • Love this

  • Brilliant!

  • Crikey... I wasn't expecting this much interest so early.

I'd better start planning something special!

  • Will this involve a train journey and passports?

  • I imagine it will be a "travel to ride" affair, and tenative transport options include:

    • A Mallard steam engine from St Pancras to Calais-Fréthun (hoping Dommy can help with this)
    • A Lancaster bomber from Biggin Hill to Calais-Dunkerque
  • Great idea, @Will.

Just to add to the sense of occasion, this is the eve of a milestone birthday for me.

  • I think we should invade France in a wooden glider pulled behind a Dakota (all curtesy of the good 'ol US of A).

Andy. You can be the pilot.

  • Wait. Weren't the gliders going to the Netherlands?
Which movie had the parachute drop and it turned out to be berets?

  • ^ A bridge too far?

The bridge being Arnhem in the Netherlands

  • That's the one. History should be taught by movies. It's the only way to prep us for the brexit truth.

  • Sir John Mills won the war single-handed. FACT!

  • We can incorporate military history and European cycling infrastructure into the ride.

This route takes you to the major landmarks of the Battle of Arnhem in WWII. From the famous John Frost Bridge you follow the south banks of the river to the ferry of Driel. Via Doorwerth Castle you go to Heelsum where the paratroopers and gliders with military equipment landed at the beginning of the Battle of Arnhem. In Oosterbeek you can visit the Airborne Cemetery and Airborne Museum 'Hartenstein'. From here you follow more of less the same route John Frost and his men took into Arnhem.

  • Excellent suggestion. I can tell this is going to be quite a special event.

And with 10 riders signed up already it just goes to show that with enough notice we can get good attendance of our club runs. Vive le Grupetto.

  • No he didn't, he got marooned on a desert island and fought with pirates.

  • I thought Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton won the war?

  • Wait.... this is in 2019

  • Yes, read the first post, and look at the date. Planning ahead.

Hopefully you have a 2-year filofax?

  • Hopefully you have a 2-year filofax?

That's a lot of paper Will

  • Well, for a year-ahead planner you could use a less detailed format thereby saving paper.

  • Ved clearly not as much of a big shot as I had assumed...

  • With any luck, I will be injury free by 2019.

  • Think I will have to dig out my Palm Pilot© for this ride

  • New Wahoo power meter?
