My point is this:
Bike touring: slowly going around somewhere, sniffing the flowers, drinking wine, eating fine foods. requires panniersRAAM etc: going fastish with a requirement for aeros. requires funky get ups
Bike packing: slowly going around somewhere, sniffing the flowers etc, uses funky get ups. maximum grams.

My understanding of the term 'bikepacking' is loading stuff onto a bike without panniers and rack.
Doesn't matter if it's for touring or racing it's just a personal luggage choice dictated by rider's requirements.
Try racing the Tour Divide with panniers. I could race TABR with panniers but it'd be silly. I could tour with bikepacking kit, which is less silly, especially if it's the ride that's the interesting bit but yeah if you are doing the stopping to smell the flowers thing, panniers probably make more sense. I got rid of my panniers though. I still have a rack if anyone wants it?

You have a lovely rack

Its faded a bit from being left in the sun, but the same could be said about many people's racks.

I really like it.
I was asking the Doktor about these bicycles just recently. -

You're full disc though.
-
• #594
I'm not sure I'm ready for discs yet.
In theory I would, but the hydro levers are either A) massive or B) expensive. -

I have three of these winging their way to me at the moment.

Or maybe not the aero model. I dunno. French Canadian people are quite confusing to work with.

Ritchey’s are well nice. I wish I never sold mine. Not keen on the awful metallic blue the 2018 model comes in tho. New fork with more clearance looks like a good change. I doubt the special edition heritage paint jobs will be available in this country. Previous Heritage releases have been US only.
Those fades are pretty weak TBH anyway.

And Paligap
People who struggle with 'wobbly' saddlebags are either using shit bags or packing them with the wrong stuff. You only put light, bulky stuff in them and keep heavy stuff in the framebags.
I've not used 'big' handlebar bags (save for a boxy one when touring or feedbags) so can't comment much on those.
