  • I need a new pair of winter overshoes. Any recommendations welcome. Ta

  • For little monies, BBB are very good.

  • I liked my endura space man boots. Still have an unworn pair in the cupboard.

  • DHB lasted me better than Endura MT thingies. Zips better and cuff more watertight

  • Velotoze for the aeros 😉

Actually, I found the ultimate toasty feet combo last year. A pair of velotoze under neoprene overshoes = toasty

  • I have yet to find a good pair of overshoes so just to say that I have nothing to add

  • I love this type of thread, someone asks for a recommendation, everyone tells you what they've got.

Is this for road riding, commuting or both? For cold weather only or wet days too?

  • someone asks for a recommendation, everyone tells you what they've got.

Isn't that a tacit recommendation? I have the overshoes I have because all the other ones I have bought up to this point have either broken or ended up in the bin - these haven't, therefor they're the best product I've discovered to date?

  • But what makes them good in your opinion? Some subjectivity is good, but detail it, explain why you like them, how they are better than others you've tried.

  • Mine are/were silver. With a honeycomb pattern on. They were warm and they made me look like an astronaut. I wore these when it was cold and wet or just wet or whenever I wanted to look like an astronaut.
When it was cold and dry, I'd wear the defeet/prendas belgian socks in fluoro yellow. I'd wear these when I wanted to make Jones the Bank feel funny in his tummy.

But then I started "doing cross" and I bought a pair of dmt boots with a neoprene sock.

  • I tried various overshoes and they all fell apart in one way or another. Until I got a pair of PRO overshoes. They've lasted me 3 winters now and are still in top shape. Sadly I don't think you can buy these any more.

Jaygee's tip about Velotoze is good though. So snug they'll keep the water out. Put them on, then your bib tights or leg warmers, then just bung a pair of overshoes over the top.

  • Had the endura spaceman shoes for 3 winters and eventually they failed - zip bust - but they were nice and warm, often too warm.

If its not silly cold, but dry - then castelli toe warmers under prendas oversocks is a nice combo.

If it is wet but not silly cold then I have some Northwave flouro waterproof things.

Really cold or wet & cold = prendas oversocks under the Northwaves.

    All about the layers.

  • All overshoes have fallen apart and the one pair of winter boots I bought got wet, had to dry badly and now stink of damp.

BBB are cheap as chips on Wiggle, etc., they are easy to get into and zip up, they have not worn out and have good visibility. They are not sexy.

I have their rain covers and the fleece-lined rain covers, they got my through last winter, but that was not very cold and I didn't do any long rides.

The best thing you can buy your feet for winter are mudguards.

  • Mostly weekend road riding through autumn and winter. More to keep my feet warm but also keep dry when mother nature does her thing.

Thanks for everyones feedback – more lunchtime research pending.

  • explain why you like them, how they are better than others you've tried.

Because they outlasted all the others, did an acceptable job and didn't annoy me enough to replace them. This is pretty much the best endorsement of a product as dull as overshoes that I can hope to provide.

  • I'll +1 the pro overshoes. Rain ones, thinner and waterproof. Seem to do the job pretty well (3 winters too). Ugliest things I've ever put on my feet though.

TBH I wear Defeet oversocks 99% of the in the winter - unless it's pouring or below 0.

  • I'm waiting for Dov to tell us what we should be doing.

  • Mudguards. Spdandles.

  • Buy a turbo trainer and do all your winter riding indoors. Removes the need to overshoes completely.

  • Recommendations for winter socks?

  • Defeet woolie bootie with the longer cuffs. Love them.

  • Cheers Dan.

  • It's rare that there is a single correct answer to these kinds of questions but in this case there is and Dan has slam-dunked it. Chapeau.
