'Simply put, bikepacking is the synthesis of mountain biking and minimalist camping; it evokes the freedom of multi-day backcountry hiking, with the range and thrill of riding a mountain bike.'

I'm doing it wrong. I've only ever used a raod biek™.
-
• #5
Yeah am not a fan of mountain bieking
For me it’s the idea of adventures on a reasonably standard road biek with gnartyres and no panniers.

That's another advantage of bikepacking kit over racks and panniers I didn't mention. You don't need rack mounts and can just rip the bags off your posh carbon bling thing when you don't need to carry shit. Sexy biek is back.

Where you going Mat?

I want to do a solo LEJOG this year. And have a bunch of routes that are old railway lines that are decommissioned.
Obviously have no experience in this but always had a strong interest in some exploring on a cross bike with simple gearing and luggage. Not heavy touring with panniers. Bit of light off road.

Have a place for Dirty Reiver this year... need to think about maybe getting a frame bag as they make you carry all sorts of stuff in case you get lost and die...
Anyone got one I can borrow or reccomend a good one?
-
• #15
I've got all the gear, you're welcome to it.
-
• #16
Generous offer.
UK version Anton? Edit . Answered my own question. Was thinking Dirty Kanza.
-
• #17
Not offering the place - really keen to do it
Yes, its a similar format to some of the US events

Don't worry, I meant Dov's offer was generous.

I bought an alpkit Glider frame bag (half frame for use with bottles in cages) which is decent for the little money
You're welcome to borrow it if Dov's doesn't fit your bike (his was too big for my bike so I ended up buying one)
-

Good point - my little childs bike actually needs one even smaller than your Alpkit one (max 400 long) so best just buy one eh... thanks for help all
-
• #21
I've got an Alpkit saddle pack, if that's any use?
-
• #22
You might squeeze in a small anoloko 42 or maybe the small Possum from Alpkit.
Otherwise it might be saddle pack time.
Alternatively, a small backpack / camelbak type thing might do it. A bit MTB but might be better on the terrain. I also have one of these you could borrow

Have just bought a restrap one.. that should fit well enough... cheers Dom

I also have most of that emergency kit if you're averse to spending
