  • I am entirely from the future, and haven't had any problems with my tubeless tyres, or my flat mount disc brakes, or my bolt-through axles.

(Although I must admit I'm a bit nervous at the prospect of getting a puncture as - like that famous dog - I would have no idea what to do)

  • No punctures in the virtual world.

  • After Sunday, I will be fitting inner tubes for BCM.

  • Pink ones? :)

  • I'm not tempted by tubeless for road yet, mainly because there's not much choice in terms of tyres, but also because punctures are, relatively, few and far between. And for an old git, I'm all about the new tech, i.e. hydraulic discs, thru axles, wireless shifting.

For cross it's great, because little punctures that would spell the end of your race on tubs or clinchers, seal. Sidewall cuts, which I've had two of in the last month, are catastrophic though, but that's the same irrespective of the tyre type.

  • I did last years BCM tubeless, 30mm, 55psi.

The problem with tubeless is the pressure that road tires need to be run at. At the 60 psi or lower level it works fine. At a 100 it's just dumb as fuck.

  • I did this a while ago and eventually the sealant will gum up but your probably talking a couple of years before it does. Did it on the commuter for added "get to work on time" certainty but as you say with good tyres (Roubaix Pro) I just never ever puncture. I think I'm on my third rear now and they have never flatted.

  • Have you met Damo?

  • Low blow Sam. LOW.

  • You did puncture on a turbo once, didn't you?

  • once?
    all the time.

  • While we're on the subject I'm going to get a moan in about how shit "tubeless ready" rims are to get tyres on/off.

Spent half an hour destroying my thumbs trying to get a pair of new 4 seasons onto a razor sharp pair if new dt r460 rims this morning.. impossible.

  • Contis?

  • Very true. Tyre levers help. Birzman are recommended (because the end bit is thin).

  • I always wear my cycling mitts when putting tyres on, and use my palm, not my fingers to roll the last bit of bead over the rim.

  • Pre stretching new tyres on another wheel like tubs worked for me and my tubeless ready crabonz.

There is also the slightly scary "stamp on tyre, use whole wheel as a lever" method. Not recommended for open tubulars etc.

  • These things were never going roll on.

  • Yep. For my sins. All that the bike shop in hh had today. £50 a tyre ffs too.

  • Conti four seasons 🙈🙈🙈🙈

  • I love 4 seasons. My commuting tyre of choice for many years.

  • Ouch! They are blimmin tough to get on wide/tubeless rims.

  • First ride into work today. Did not fall off or puncture. Seemed reasonably fast, but not " I just spent race tubs money on these things" fast. Hard to tell though, first time riding that bike without a draggy freehub for about 3 months. My legs also felt like crap.

Tl;dr - they are definitely tyres

  • "Definitely tyres."

A review to end all reviews.

  • Great review.
