As I said Sunday, your 'local' 10 courses would be the G10/42 near Dorking, the G10/57 near Horsham, the H10/22 near Marlow, or the H10/8 near Farnham.
I'm happy to ride any of those with you except for the H10/22, that is a bit of a trek for me.

I think you should do G10/57.

E2E4 is much better.

What have I got myself into?
-
• #81
Well, if you start with E2E4 you would probably end up exploring Ash Ra Temple.
-
• #82
Have you tried G4S?
-
• #83
Either way, Kosmiche/Prog Rock and Time Trialling indicates you'll be having chats with Sam D.
Golf and Mini chat next.

Excellent. This has got momentum. Let's get a date in the diary for Dave's first TT, and then we can use our (partly armchair) knowledge to get him a good placing.

On the basis of the advice provided so far , I am joining Paceline RT.

In a year or so this could be you:

When is this TT? We should come along and (heckle/) support you. I assume you'll be wearing a skin suit Dave?
-
• #88
Yes, a nice low-traffic dual carriageway course.

Srsly tho, next year everyone needs to try a TT. There are a very small handful of Saturday afternoon events in Kent, on only two courses. One on the Isle of Grain, flat but exposed to the wind, and the other near Tenterden, a sporting course that thankfully due to a longish downhill section not long after the start has more down than up. This would be my choice for you all to ride as it's a nice event on a quiet course, and a road bike wouldn't be much of a handicap. It's also the only event on this course.
Dates are being fixed by the various districts at the mo, so these will be out for 2017 in a couple of months.

Does anyone use training peaks?
-
• #91
I get it free from work but it's too much info for me so I ignored it, mostly
-
• #92
I used the HrTSS calculation bit on the freebie version and had a Google spreadsheet set up to mimic the WKO/TP TSS premium tracking chart to try and peak for Manchester London charity ride and Ride London. Worked great.
Having previously used WKO+ with a power meter to calculate TSS and compared results to HrTSS for my level of riding it gave basically the same results.
-

So far it is telling me roughly the same info as strava premium. I also realise you need a power meter to get the most out of it , which I don't have.
-
• #95
I use WKO. It's the 'locally-installed, one off payment version of TrainingPeaks.
It does the useful stuff without having to hand any of your data over to 'the man'.

That's your Christmas present sorted then, Dave.
-
• #97
I will pass that onto Alex as she is always saying she doesn't know what to get me for Christmas.
-
• #98
yes.
Don't bother if you don't have a power meter. Unless you're being coached remotely.

Do TP do special licence deals for 5 year-olds?

I didn't know where to stick this, so as a lot of the video involves racing and TTing I thought I'd stick it here.
A lovely video celebrating 75 years of Thanet Road Club. A really nicely done piece of work. The chap who made it did so because he won a memorial trophy, and asked who was the rider it was dedicated to, but no one knew!
And if you look close enough you might catch a glimpse of yours truly :0)
That's tactics sorted. Thanks Sam!
