Road Racing and Training 2016

I will be in full corporate winker mode tonight, racing around Canary Wharf again. Very much looking forward to it.

Italian Pursuit on a 1km closed road circuit in the centre of Canary Wharf. Eight riders, four kilometres. The lead rider peels off every 500m, leaving the final four to race the final two kilometres as a team time-trial.

We are a last minute team which is rather unbalanced in terms of talent. Slower riders like me doing first part with some beasts screaming at us from behind. :-/

Did LCH Clearnet win? I think I know one of the guys in their team (Tom Mann).

How did your lot do?

LCH did nail a thrilling final to take the honours, leaving our best team in their wake. RBC were leading but one of their men took too long a pull which unsettled them.

It was a great night, quite an impressive event and this year the weather was kind.

Our team came mid-table. We had a disaster from the off, number 7 man toppled on the holding start and forced number 6 to unclip. The first two went off like bat poo and the communication did not come up the line. By the time the others had caught up they were too dead to smash their last 2k.

I had no idea what was going on, I concentrated on closing the gap I had from number 2, when he tired I went past him early, did my little 500 metres and was glad to peel off.

We had a great laugh and bonded as a group which was nice.

@dave_mac, did you get into the ToC Chrono?

So first update is :

Day 1:checked the course , seems it is 16miles and not 16km as I first thought .

That's over 50% more riding than I was planning on. Oh, and there's a hill , I had thought it was a flat course.

Went for night time ride .

Day 2 : Realised this might be a stupid idea. Still did a sweet spot session on turbo.

Day 3: having thought more about this , decided to work on nutritional plan. Went to staff canteen and had a full English.

What is their full English like? Would be interesting to see it Instagrammed.

Update... £2.25 for this is quite a bargain.

Good to see that breakfast means breakfast (and not some fancy foreign muck).

Plenty of time to enjoy the winter and the food it brings, before starting to get on a serious diet in January.

Non-standard distance in a UK time trial? Isn't that tantamount to treason?

Let's face it , it's timetrialling for the sportive/triathlon market. Pay a large amount of money for some closed roads and a fancy start ramp.

Some might complain and some might say it's the future of sport. Who cares really? It's just an incentive to me to ride my bike and have some fun.

They're the fun ones Andy, as you have to think about your pacing a bit more, as opposed to slipping into 10 or 25 mile mode :0)
