  • And Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 Pt II, Business Tenancies.

  • Does anyone have a 520 ? Is it basically the 510 with better maps ?

  • It has a pitiful 21Mb of storage space for maps, so you will need to get used to replacing them. Good info here:
    https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/07/garmin-edge-520.html

I'm waiting for my 705 to die, then going for an 820. The 705 is a persistant bastard though.

  • The 520 is a terrible compromise on pretty much all its features

  • Gone 820 .

  • 705

They're like cockroaches those things. The only reason I replaced mine was because I accidentally destroyed/ripped out the micro usb socket buy using a dodgy cable.

Tbh - a better machine than my 800 has been.

  • So. The 705 no longer turns on.

Is the 820 as bad as many reviewers say. Touch screen sensitivity, loading rides, routing etc.

I really wish there was an alternative...

Wahoo, I've checked and it suffers from many bugs and the map display looks next to useless. It is huge and pig ugly. At least it has actual buttons.

I'd get the Lezyne but it requires a working phone connection for routing and as you know I love following my pink line.

    Meh.

  • My 605 is still chugging on...

  • Wahoo, I've checked and it suffers from many bugs

More than Garmin? I doubt it. At least Wahoo seem to fix bugs.

  • Have you tried contacting Garmin Repair Centre? When my 800 failed I sent it off to them and they sent me back a reconditioned one. I think it only cost about £60

  • @andyp I think the unreadable mono maps are one major issue with the wahoo. Their use of a mobile app for off the bike control makes loads of sense. The size and styling are a big negative.

@denny it is currently stuck together with superglue, after a wall vs unit incident it is also on its second battery, which I installed a while back. I'm not sure I could send it back in good faith. I'll investigate though. I'd rather pay for a repair to tank than for something that is a beta product at best.

  • Why not get the 805 Jay?

    Much better than 705.

  • Vero has given me her 605. Result.

  • .

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative straps for the Garmin sensor?

My strap continues to be a bit flaky, and I've generally found Garmin straps to be a bit hit and miss, so want to try something else.

  • Have you replaced the battery recently?

  • Last time I replaced the battery it didn't really help.

  • Mine has recently become flakey whenever doing a TT. Reads really low for about the first 5 minutes, then when it's working properly I get the occasional spike.

Absolutely fine at all other times, even when warming up for said TTs. My next step was to replace the battery, unless anyone has another suggestion?

  • I had a problem with my strap recently. It was very inconsistent at recording my heart rate. I tried changing the battery and changing the strap but neither solution worked.

Then I discovered that the newer Garmin straps need regular washing to help keep them free of crap that affects the signal. I wash mine every night after the commute, with my kit (obviously removing the battery sensor first!), and I've not had a problem since.

  • I've one of the older ones.

  • Perhaps I need a tighter jersey to hold the strap against my chest.

I'll ask Dave if I can borrow his new 'small' club jersey.

  • I've tried a Polar strap in the past, and it worked well (better than Garmin). And that was really the gist of my question... Are there any better alternatives?

  • I've got some socks you can try, @Will !!!

  • Bring them to the next club drinks.
