Over priced

Ohhh, so frustrating. Its nice, but Dov is right, its very 'parts bin' and overpriced. How much by? I'll defer to back to the experts.

I'd pay £400 and no more

Any news from Chak on that Trek for £250?
-

Sold. Some guy picked it up in pissing rain and rode off!

Damn shame

Chuck offer in for 400.
Seems reasonable.

Sound advice, following up with him now

I must be honest, I didn't actually look at the listing - was talking more generally about CAAD being a better bet than cheap carbon.

Emonda ALR worth a look too.

I know I'm not one who should voice an opinion on what's nice about bikes, but that's horrible.

How can something so bland generate such hatred?

Piss off Trek

Still better than a Ridley though

It's a bike for 900 quid. Whaddaya expect.
It's bland whatever, but the frame is legit alu.
Trek make pretty decent frames.

Buying a new bike in the bike shop sales (peaking right now) certainly avoids the many traps that lurk in the second-hand market. You might not get such a bargain but at least you are likely to get a decent bike (and - as Dov mentioned - something with a warranty).

I dunno. Bikes aren't that complicated - as long as you can do basic stuff like swap a bb and change a chain etc it's not that bad. Real thing to watch out for is brake surface wear.
The problem with cheap new bikes is that the finishing kit and wheels are always dogshit and you end up replacing half the bike within a year - you can easily double your costs.

I have no idea how to do a BB.
